Dasuki’s delayed arrival stalls commencement of court proceeding

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja is, at press time, awaiting the arrival of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), before his trial to commence with respect to the charges of alleged diversion of about N32bn, being part of fund meant for the procurement of arms.
This was as the counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs SAN, assured the court that Dasuki, who was re-arrested shortly after fulfilling the bail conditions which the court granted him in January, would be produced in court shortly.
He told the presiding judge, Justice Baba Yusuf that those conveying him to court had assured him that they were on their way. The judge consequently stood the case down till 11am.
However, leading lawyers to Dasuki, Messrs Joseph Daudu and Ahmed Raji, both Senior Advocates of Nigeria, are also absent. They had reportedly written to the court asking for an adjournment of the case because they were scheduled to be in Kogi State for ‎a more pressing election petition case.
But while standing down the case, Justice Yusuf said he would only take decision on the letter written by the lawyers upon the arrival of the embattled former NSA.
